The inaugural race was called Devil’s Dash because the event is located next to and partially sponsored by Devil’s Den, the historic spring in Williston, Florida. The early settlers called the place Devil’s Den because of the smoke-like appearance caused by the warm water and the cold air during cold mornings. Cedar Lakes Woods and Gardens (the venue of the Devil’s Dash event) decided on the race’s name to have affiliation with the spring, a partial sponsor for the first year’s event.
